Question
1 – Within the
remit set out above: what do you consider to be the priorities or
issues that the Children, Young People and Education Committee
should consider during the Fifth Assembly?
|
There are very
many children and young people in the Principality
who suffer
illnesses and disabilities. Many have 'hidden illnesses'
and
'hidden
disabilities' which mean that they are not all being
treated
properly and cared
for as they should at their schools.
|
Question 2
– From the list of priorities
or issues you have identified, what do you consider to be the key
areas that should be considered during the next 12 months
(please identify up to three areas
or issues)? Please outline why these should be considered as
key priorities.

• It is very important that schools do
everything they can to get to know which of their pupils fall into
these categories and meet
with their parents to discuss what they can do
to give them special care. Many will suffer from particular
illnesses that require special treatment during school time e.g.
Diabetics. They may require to take medication or receive
injections. Some
schools refuse to have anything to do with the
giving of medication or the giving of injections. Not only is this
wrong and gives parents and pupils great worry, it can also put
children's lives in great danger.
• It is essential that your Committee
ensures that full care is
provided at all times - this includes periods
when pupils travel
on school transport.
